When you’re spending long hours in cold water—whether you're surfing, diving, or training—the difference between cutting your session short and staying out until sunset often comes down to one thing: your wetsuit.

At Lunasurf, we don’t just make wetsuits. We craft high-performance suits from the most advanced neoprene in the world: Yamamoto. Designed originally in 1961 to protect Japanese fishermen from freezing waters, Yamamoto neoprene has revolutionized cold-water protection with unmatched thermal insulation, comfort, and durability.

The History of Yamamoto Neoprene – Built for Harshest Conditions

Imagine diving into icy water day after day with nothing to keep you warm. That was the daily reality for fishermen in the early 1960s—until Yamamoto came along. Their revolutionary wetsuit material reduced the need for constant breaks, increased productivity, and dramatically improved lives. In fact, many who previously had to retire in their 30s could now keep working into their 60s and 70s.

That same innovation powers every Lunasurf wetsuit today.

What Makes Yamamoto Neoprene in Lunasurf Wetsuits So Effective?

Our wetsuits aren’t just warm—they're engineered to keep you in the water longer, with less fatigue and more performance.

Here’s what sets them apart:

✅ Superior Insulation

Yamamoto neoprene features closed-cell construction, meaning less water absorption and greater heat retention compared to traditional neoprene. You stay warmer—naturally.

✅ Perfect Fit

A well-fitted suit is essential. A loose wetsuit allows cold water to flush in and out, draining your body heat. Lunasurf wetsuits are designed with a snug anatomical fit that minimizes flushing and maximizes warmth and flexibility.

✅ Lightweight Warmth

Thanks to the efficiency of Yamamoto neoprene, you don’t need bulk to stay warm. Our suits are lighter, stretchier, and less restrictive, without sacrificing insulation.

✅ Seam Sealing for the Win

Our suits feature GBS (Glued and Blind-Stitched) seams, with critical areas taped to prevent water intrusion—because even the best neoprene won't help if cold water is constantly leaking in.

✅ Wind-Blocking Outer Layer

We use skin-surface rubber in wind-exposed panels to repel water and shield you from wind chill. It’s like armor against the elements, without sacrificing flexibility or weight.

※This video was filmed under controlled conditions, with continuous monitoring to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals.

• The test was designed by an experienced aquarist, with careful consideration to minimize any stress on the fish caused by sudden changes in water temperature or quality.

• A preliminary test was conducted under the same setup and conditions to confirm there was no rapid temperature changes which would negatively affect the fish.

• Throughout the test, the fish was continuously monitored by at least one staff member, and the team was fully prepared to stop the experiment immediately if any signs of distress or abnormal changes occurred.

• After the test, the fish was promptly returned to its original environment, and its health was confirmed.
